Weed Spotlight: Henbit
Driving around central Illinois you've probably noticed a purple-colored weed growing in your fields. Henbit is a winter annual that has been more noticeable this Spring for a number of reasons. Early harvest, mild winter and available nutrition combined with lack of preemergent herbicide program can lead to yield reduction if not corrected. If a preemergent program was not used the ideal scenario would be to spray the weed early as possible before it uptakes available nutrients in the soil. Nitrogen and Sulfur are two major nutrients that Henbit will affect.
