Summary/Objective
The Accounting and Payroll Manager will manage the accounting database and oversee day-to-day accounting functions of the Specialty Formulations division of BRANDT, Inc. In addition, this position will include payroll functions and processes. The position involves confidential and time-sensitive material and experience with payroll practices and software.
The Accounting and Payroll Manager will report to the Specialty Formulations Controller.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting database, ensuring their efficiency, security and integrity.
- Manage full cycle, end-to-end accounting processes including transaction processing (Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Cost Accounting) and the monthly close.
- Review and analyze inventory valuations and controls, including monitoring physical inventory counts.
- Maintaining the chart of accounts.
- Ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of month-end entries, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Provide training and support to accounting staff on how to manage data entry, updates, and reports within the database
- Oversee and manages direct reports including accounts payable, accounts receivable and database system managers
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting along with documentation of the business process.
- Participate in merger/acquisition integration and implementation of new financial processes and procedures.
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee’s hourly rates, salaries, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholdings, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions
- Maintains all payroll information related to the calculation, withholding and remittance of federal, state, and local payroll taxes; enters data, updates information, and prepares reports as needed.
- Generating payroll reports and reconciling payroll data.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Processing year-end tax forms (e.g., W-2s).
Required Competencies
- Expertise in accounting database management systems
- Compliance with GAAP as well as state-related income tax and sales tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel- advanced).
- Capability to prioritize and plan efficiently and effectively.
- Flexibility within a diverse organization is a must, self-motivated, self-directed.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Knowledge of finance, cash and accrual accounting, budgeting and cost control procedures.
- Ability to develop processes.
- Ability to prepare monthly internal management and accounting reports.
Supervisory Responsibility
The position works with the Specialty Formulations Controller to directly oversee the Specialty Formulations division of accounting, which includes the employees in payables, receivables, inventory and tax.
Work Environment
Professional office environment. This position requires competency in using standard office equipment.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time position and is exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements under federal and all applicable state or local laws. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., with evening and weekend work required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires minimal travel to our manufacturing facilities in California and Nebraska.
Required Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required
- Cost Accountant/Manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience with Global/SAP/ERP system preferred
- Experience with payroll software preferred
- 10 or more years of work-related experience including management experience

Pay Range: $80,000 - $100,000 per year
