Job Description
Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Technician is responsible for analyzing production samples as well as water samples from hydrology clients by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions
A chosen candidate will be trained in various lab procedures and instruments including but not limited to:
- Use of Wet chemistry equipment, ion chromatography (IC), auto-titrator, ICP, nitrogen analyzer.
- Preparing samples and lab chemicals for test purposes.
- Performing lab analysis to determine if product specifications are met.
- Standardizing and maintaining lab instruments.
- Reporting routine lab results.
- Recording and updating historical results.
- Troubleshooting routine problems with lab instrumentation and equipment.
- Using the test results to assess the typical quality of products made by Production.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies
- Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
- Behave professionally by phone and email
- Excellent record keeping and attention to detail; Well organized and efficient.
- Strong algebra and stoichiometry skills
- Interpreting data and problem solving
- Basic lab safety and emergency response knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, comprehend instructions and memos in English; Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to build relationships and work well in a team-based environment.
Preferred Competencies
- Experience with analytical balances and Eppendorf pipets
- Competency in working with fume hood and strong chemicals

Work Environment
The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office and laboratory environment with prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing and walking in the lab. Occasionally works in warehouse/plant in heat/cold conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazards. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time position that is non-exempt. Typically works 5 eight-hour days (Monday – Friday) with overtime as needed.
Education and Experience
High school diploma, GED or equivalent; College coursework in chemistry, preferred
