Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting the location manager/seed advisor in daily operations. This position will support the seed and fertilizer portions of the business. The position will be involved in mixing chemicals, loading dry fertilizer, tendering application equipment, repairs and general maintenance on equipment. In addition, this position will specialize in seed inventory, treatment, and delivery. The position will work closely with all employees at the location.
The Operations Assistant will report to the Plant Manager of Lexington, IL. This position will work with the Lexington customer base.
Essential Functions
- Assist Plant Manager/Seed Advisor in daily operations
- Must be able to operate seed tender
- Load dry fertilizer
- Unload incoming seed- bulk and packaged
- Load/ unload pallets or seed boxes with forklift
- Treat soybeans
- Manage seed inventory, warehouse maintenance and cleanliness
- Sort seed orders
- Deliver seed to growers
- Tender application equipment
- Perform general maintenance and repair on plant equipment
- Custom apply products as needed
- Load/ tender anhydrous ammonia
- Answers questions concerning products
- Builds and develops long-term relationships with customers, peers and suppliers

Work Environment
The Operations Assistant will be required to work at a retail location in all types of weather.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time position and is exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements under federal and all applicable state or local laws. Days and hours of work are based on the needs of customers and seasonal work.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Associate’s degree (2 yrs) preferred and/or minimum 2 - 5 years of job experience required.
- CDL & Hazmat certification or willingness to complete within 60 days of employment
- Intermediate computer and software skills required.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs.
- Must be able to obtain Illinois Department of Agriculture Applicator and Seed Treatment certifications.
