Job Description
Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and production. Mechanics are expected to install, repair, and modify existing/new equipment while following safe procedures, support safety programs and policies to maintain personal safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety.
Essential Functions
- Repair and adjust plant equipment such as conveyors, motors, pumps, auto fillers, kettles, scales, printers, cap sealers, tape machines, auto labelers, auto cappers and eye sensors.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and hydraulic malfunctions and make appropriate repairs.
- Perform maintenance on Anhydrous Ammonia systems.
- Install electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Read, interpret and accurately apply all electrical and industrial codes.
- Read and understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, diagrams, electrical prints, and manufacturing publications.
- Familiar with air compressors, various pumps, boilers, and other common mechanical equipment.
- Follow procedures as outlined in equipment manufacturer’s maintenance manual.
- Purchase parts and equipment using a purchase order system.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance program.
- Maintain safe, well-organized maintenance shop.
- Operate forklift.
- May be required to instruct others in the department.
- Actively support department goals
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5 plus years of experience equipment maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of PLC’s
- Experience with Lockout/Tagout Procedures
- Experienced with performing maintenance of anhydrous ammonia systems.
- Experienced with routine maintenance of industrial forklifts
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical knowledge and ability to perform troubleshooting and repairs.
- Ability to weld stainless steel and mild steel.
- Experience using a plasma torch for repairs.
Required Competencies
- Mathematical Skills- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Language Skills- Ability to speak, read and write clearly and effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Reasoning Ability- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., use both hands and arms in full range of motion, have good hand and eye coordination skills, be able to work around moving equipment.
- Self- motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and meet deadline in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment
The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily in a warehouse/plant environment with prolonged standing or walking. Works in heat/cold conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazards.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time position that is non-exempt. Typically works 5 eight-hour days (Monday – Friday) with overtime as required. Working Saturdays, as needed to support the business.
Education and Experience
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of college or technical school preferred.
- Five or more years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
