Job Description
Summary/Objective
Reporting to Production Director, the Plant Manager is responsible for supervising manufacturing personnel, ensuring production goals are met; promoting employee welfare; promoting quality, cost, and safety initiatives; maintaining general work standards.
Essential Functions
Supervises Manufacturing personnel by:
- Devising work schedules
- Distributing and reviewing assignments
- Evaluating and recommending training and training programs
- Maintaining quality improvement programs
- Promoting company policies consistent with corporate values
- Formulating and communicating departmental guidelines and procedures
- Conducting departmental meetings
- Informing company personnel of plant operations
Ensures production goals are met by:
- Establishing short- and long-term plant objectives and goals
- Supervising the production personnel to achieve quality, safety, and cost objectives
- Developing changes to plant objectives if necessary
- Communicating both horizontally and vertically to disseminate information
Promotes employee welfare and involvement by:
- Assessing and processing equipment needs
- Analyzing and improving workflow
- Completing employee performance evaluations
- Recognizing outstanding performance
Promotes quality initiatives by:
- Functioning as team leader for problem solving
- Communicating with customers to ensure product standards are met.
- Ensuring product integrity and improvement programs are implemented
Promotes cost initiatives by:
- Monitoring plant financial performance
- Implementing changes in course of direction for performance correction or improvement
- Developing annual operating plan budgets
- Coordinating staffing to minimize cost impacts.
- Developing input requirements for successful product introductions
- Evaluating the impact of requirement alternatives and system capacities
Promotes safety initiatives by:
- Setting measurable plant safety objectives
- Monitoring plant safety performance
- Supervising corrective actions by plant staff
Maintains general work standards by:
- Performing quality work
- Cleaning and maintaining work area.
- Instructing employees new to the job on proper performance of their duties
- Performing miscellaneous duties incidental to the job
- Performing any and all assigned tasks to ensure continuity of production and safety of all personnel
- Complying with Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations
- Understanding and implementing the requirements of quality systems
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience with production management philosophies such as Kanban, Six Sigma and 5S is preferred
- Familiarity with scanner driven real-time inventory system is preferred
Required Competencies
- Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Capability to prioritize and plan efficiently and effectively.
- Flexibility within a diverse organization is a must; Self-motivated, self-directed.
- Ability to direct workflow, manage others and be an effective decision maker.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Plant Manager is responsible for directly supervising multiple supervisors who supervisor various areas of production and maintenance.
Work Environment
The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office environment with prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Regularly works in warehouse/plant in heat/cold conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
Classification/Expected Hours of Employment
This position is a full-time position that is exempt.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years manufacturing experience OR 10 years of manufacturing management experience; Or equivalent combination of education and experience
