Corn: Planting Date

In parts of the US, corn planting is in full swing. Here in central IL some farmers have started, but the bulk of planting season is still in front of us. The graph illustrates current and historical soil temperatures out of the Springfield, IL station. 50 degrees and above soil temperature NH4 converts to nitrate at a faster pace making in more available to the plant. Planting too early can result in setback that the plant may never recover from. Monitor soil temperatures and weather patterns to find the ideal planting date for your area.
