May 6th we sidedressed nitrogen on corn in a few of our nitrogen timing and rate trials. A later application of nitrogen will provide supplemental nitrogen as the corn develops and transitions from vegetative to reproductive stage. Our on farm research shows that splitting nitrogen applications proved higher yielding over applying 100% of N in Fall or Spring. Sidedressing is one practice of nitrogen application before the plant gets too tall. There are newer technologies for late N applications that we will be testing this year as well.
